GOAL-SHY Woodley United’s poor form in Southern Women’s Premier Division continued with a 2-0 home defeat to Warsash Wasps on Sunday.

They have now failed to score in their last four matches, losing three of them.

Luck was out for the hosts when a Rosie Page-Smith shot hit the crossbar from an Ellen Surtees free kick in the eighth minute.

To compound their frustration, they conceded a needless corner from which Megan Fox sent a free header past Nicole Haines to give the visitors the lead three minutes later.

Woodley responded but couldn’t finish off their chances as Page-Smith, Shelby Preston-Morris and Amie Benton were all denied by Wasps keeper Rebecca Gardiner.

The theme continued after the interval with United enjoying plenty of possession but lacking a cutting edge in the final third.

They were soon made to pay when Fox doubled Wasps’ lead with a stunning free-kick in the 52nd minute.

And while Charley Evans and Mollie Lambourne both went agonisingly close for the hosts, they were unable to salvage anything from the match.

Woodley, who are fourth in the table, travel to bottom club Barton Rovers Ladies for their final league fixture this Sunday (2pm).

Woodley: Haines, Hunt (Harris-Steers), Wilkins, Stringer (Ward), Surtees, Evans, Penny (Lambourne), Sawyer, Page-Smith, Preston-Morris, Benton. Sub not used: Pearson.

BARTON Rovers Ladies were denied point after a 1-0 home defeat to third-placed Oxford City in the Southern Women’s Premier Division on Sunday.

There were chances at both ends with both Barton and their opponents rattling the woodwork.

The clash was heading for a goalless draw when disaster struck for the hosts and they conceded an own goal from a corner.
