READING men slumped to a 3-0 defeat at Wimbledon, one of only three sides below them in the Premier Division standings.

But despite being down in seventh place, the Blues still cannot be ruled out of reaching the play-offs as they are only three points behind fourth-placed East Grinstead, albeit with an inferior goal difference.

It is unlikely to happen as there are only five fixtures left and they will need to win most of them while hoping other results go in their favour.

Jason Lee's men missed the chance to move up to fifth last Saturday when they lost to a side battling to stay clear of the relegation zone.

They fell behind to a Ben Roe field goal on 20 minutes and their hopes of getting back in the game ended eight minutes into the second half when Ed Horler converted a penalty corner.

And it was Horler who put the seal on Wimbledon's third league win of the campaign, scoring three minutes from time.

It was the first clean sheet the London club have kept this season.

This coming Saturday, the Blues take on league leaders Surbiton at Sonning Lane (6.30pm) and will be seeking revenge for a 6-2 loss at Sugden Road last October.

Former Reading players Tim Atkins and Ben Boon are expected to be in the visitors' side, who have suffered just two league defeats in their 13 games.

Reading women's run of three successive wins with a clean sheet came to an end when they lost 2-0 at Trojans in a physical game, ending their hopes of moving up to third spot in the Conference West standings.

They slip to sixth, swapping places with the Southampton-based club.

Teenage goalie Ami Miller extended her impressive record of not conceding a goal to 270 minutes before being beaten.

Her defence was finally breached just after the hour mark when Emma Teague made the breakthrough and two minutes later former Reading player Zoe Gittens put the issue beyond doubt.

This coming Saturday Jo Ellis' side face one of their toughest matches of the season as they take on Stourport at Sonning Lane (1.30pm).

The league leaders, who are seven points clear, won 12 successive games with a goals record of 44-7 before losing their 100 per cent record last weekend when they were held to a 0-0 home draw by fourth-placed Olton & West Warwicks.

Reading Men's 2nds were forced to concede their National Tier 2 Championship tie at Clifton Robinsons 2nds last weekend, giving the Bristol side a walk-over to the quarter-finals.
