In Division One of the Reading & District League, Sonning Common & Peppard B managed a 10-0 win in their brought forward match against Kingfisher D, but it was a lot closer than the scoreline suggests.

All three Kingfisher players, Luca Bianchi, Clive Gold and Guy de la Villesbrunne pushed the Sonning Common trio hard, but hat-tricks from Nigel Maltby, Jeremy Willis and Andy Wang saw them home.

Kingfisher C won 7-3 at Tidmarsh B thanks to a great treble from Nigel Keedy and a good win by Alan Cummings against Simon Barter 11-8 6-11 7-11 13-11 11-8.

Our Lady of Peace A beat Our Lady of Peace B 9-1 in their inter-club derby in Division Two, Clive Perry and Chris West with maximums for the A team, while Johnson Xu managed a 9-11 11-9 11-4 11-5 victory over Darek Kaminski for the B team.

In a key relegation match, Kingfisher E could only field one player and as a result crashed to a 9-1 defeat at Pangbourne WMC, John Simmonds and Clive Taylor beating Eric Holmes, although Holmes did manage an 11-8 11-13 12-10 11-5 success against Leroy Wilson.

Springfield B stole a march against their Division Three promotion rivals by beating their C team clubmates 8-2, Rob Wilkie with a treble alongside doubles from Peter Gurney and Stephen Leggett.

Jason King picked up the C team's victories.

Tilehurst Methodists B and Tidmarsh C battled out a 5-5 draw, Eric Van Looy and Nigel Rowland winning twice for Tilehurst, while Simon Craig starred for Tidmarsh with a hat-trick which included beating the previously undefeated van Looy 4-11 11-8 11-8 11-9.

In Division Four, Julian James and Mike Casserely both won twice for Sonning Common & Peppard F, however teammate Gerry Bacon had to retire injured after his match against Carl Edlind as Milestone C grabbed a 6-4 win.

Third-placed Reading FC B slipped to an 8-2 defeat at Tidmarsh E after an enthralling contest, Steve Andrews and Pete Sinclair both unbeaten on the night, with Mike Bundy beating Harry Edwards, but then losing out to both Keith Greene and Joe Bull.

Bottom-placed Springfield D beat Springfield E 7-3, Chris Speight and Johnny Worrall both recording maximums, this being Worrall’s first, with Tom Berryman beating Tom Powell 12-10 13-11 13-15 11-7 for his single, Colin Jones and Marcello Carammma scoring the points for the E team.

Alona Slobodskoy and Jan Polnik both recorded trebles, while Mariusz Paluszkiewicz also recorded a single by beating Phil Peat 11-8 11-8 11-9, which all added up to Our Lady of Peace E winning 8-2 at Sonning Sports C, for whom Michael Byrne and John Scott each won once.

Springfield B are the first team through to the Lower Divisions knock-out final following a 7-2 victory at Kingfisher G.

Rob Wilkie and Seth Martin starred for Springfield with the pairing securing a maximum without dropping a game.

l COMMONWEALTH Games medallist Maria Tsaptsinos has been named in a six-strong England squad for the World Championships in Budapest in April.

The 21-year-old from Reading is joined in the women’s line-up by England No. 1 Tin-Tin Ho.

The men are represented by Rio Olympians Liam Pitchford, Sam Walker and Paul Drinkhall, plus Tom Jarvis.

This year is the individual championships, with singles and doubles events on the programme.

Ho and Tsaptsinos are paired together in the Women’s Doubles, while the English partnerships in the Mixed Doubles are Walker and Ho, and Jarvis and Tsaptsinos.

The tournament begins on April 21.
