WOODLEY United crashed to a 3-0 defeat at Wallingford Town in their Hellenic League Division One East clash on Saturday.

The Kestrels were the better side for the opening half-hour, but the hosts gradually grew in confidence and eventually deserved all three points.

Max Laschok and Chace Jewell looked dangerous for the visitors in the early stages, while at the other end, Neil Griffith was forced to deal with a Charlie Silkstone effort, the same play then putting the ball over on 21 minutes.

However, it was Silkstone who opened the scoring when he beat both Luke Axton-Hall and Ryan Alexander to coolly slot pass the advancing Griffith.

Fernandez and Laschok combined to see the latter’s strike cleared for a corner, while the same pairing resulted in Laschok putting over three minutes before half time.

In between these attacks Silkstone got on the end of a long ball to steer it wide of the advancing Griffith.

Woodley started the second half in positive fashion, but it was the hosts who went closest to scoring when they were denied by a Pele Hagger challenge and Griffith saved from Luke Williams.

However, it was Williams who doubled Town’s lead on 56 minutes when he headed home from a corner.

Jewell and Ed Thomas came close for Woodley, but Town put the game to bed when Silkstone scored his second from close range in the first minute of stoppage time.

Things got no better for Woodley on Tuesday as they exited the Aldershot Senior Cup at the quarter-final stage following a 4-1 home defeat to Fleet Town.

A desperate first 45 minutes for the Kestrels saw the away side race into a 4-0 lead to effectively put the game to bed.

Woodley showed character after the break and pulled a goal back through substitute Freddie Barron on 58 minutes, the marksman finding the back of the net with his first touch after coming on.

However, that was as good as it got for the home side, who return to league action at home to basement side Chinnor on Saturday (3pm).

Goals from Devontae Romeo and Tom Browne gave second-placed AFC Aldermaston a 2-0 win at Milton United on Saturday.

The Atom Men then turned on the style with an 8-0 trouncing of Abingdon Town in the last 16 of the Hellenic League Division One Subsidiary Cup on Tuesday night.

The hosts came flying out of the blocks and grabbed a third-minute opener when Martin King (pictured) nodded home a perfect Browne corner, and they doubled their advantage shortly after when Kai Stubbs-Alleyne converted Sid Gbla’s cross.

It was 3-0 in the 13th minute as Browne rolled home a penalty after Stubbs-Alleyne was hauled down in the area, and Gbla made it 4-0 on 18 minutes when he slotted home a Kashif Chowdhary delivery.

There was a lull in the goal-scoring rampage, but Gbla completed his hat-trick with a further two goals in the space of three minutes before the interval as Aldermaston went into the break 6-0 to the good.

Josh Blackwood set-up Gbla for his fourth 15 minutes from time, and the demolition was completed three minutes later when Stubbs-Alleyne’s cross was nodded home by King for his second of the night.

AFC Aldermaston are at home to Penn & Tylers Green in the league on Saturday (3pm).

Beacon beat Brookside St Laurence 5-2 to move into the semi-finals of the Philmar Cup.

Doubles from Andrew Stroud and Rich Lyons, added to a Jordan McGill effort, proved to be enough despite Sam Carlisle’s brace for Brookside.

GEORGIA Haswell scored the only goal of the game as Barton Rovers Royals edged past Newbury Development 1-0 in Division Two South of the Thames Valley Counties Women’s League.

Newbury’s goalkeeper Marie Prout was the stand-out performer for her side.
