READING City suffered a fourth straight Premier Division defeat as they went down 2-0 to Tuffley Rovers on Saturday.

First-half goals from Brett James and Jake Rhodes put the visitors in command, and they repelled the hosts at Rivermoor to take away all three points.

City manager Simon Johnson retains faith in his side despite a run which has seen them slip to 16th in the table, stating: “The job gets harder, but we will stick through these tough times.

“I still stick by my thought we have a quality group, but character is needed from all.”

Reading City are at home to Holmer Green on Monday night (7.45pm).

WOODLEY United earned a hard-fought point in their Division One East clash at promotion-chasing Thame Rangers on Saturday.

The home started brighter and after Adam Barnard had blocked an early effort, Thame took a deserved 15th-minute lead when George Ashworth fired home through a mass of bodies from the edge of the penalty area.

The lead was nearly doubled two minutes later when Thame were allowed an unchallenged header, following a free kick, which went over the cross bar.

With United’s struggling to get into Thame’s half, a chance to equalise arose in the 18th minute when Max Laschok was fouled for a penalty kick, but after a lengthy delay, he put it over the bar.

United’s Pablo Fernandez was then unfortunate to not be awarded a spot-kick, but Woodley equalised three minutes from half time when Laschok robbed Matt Johnston of the ball on the edge of the home penalty area to slot past Dan Bowker in the Thame goal.

There were few clear-cut chances in the second period as the weather worsened, and both sides were content with a point.

The Kestrels advanced to the quarter-finals of the Bluefin Sports Supplementary Cup with a 4-2 win at Milton United on Tuesday,

Chace Jewell, Fernandez, Jon Malone and Toby Briggs got the goals.

Woodley United travel to Didcot Town Development in the league on Saturday (3pm), before visiting Penn & Tylers Green next Tuesday (7.45pm).

GOALS from substitute Imani Likita and Thomas Browne helped AFC Aldermaston knock Cookham Dean out of the Reading Senior Cup as the Atom Men reached the quarter-finals, despite Jamel Forde-Small being sent off for a second bookable offence.

Second-placed Aldermaston return to Division One East action this coming Saturday when they host Holyport (3pm).
