IN Division One of the Reading & District Table Tennis League, Sonning Common & Peppard B battled out a 5-5 draw with their A team club mates, Jeremy Willis and Brian Meheux both earning good wins over Malcolm Gregory for the B team, while Neil Hurford won all three for the A team including a good tactical comeback to beat Andy Wang 3-11 1-11 11-5 11-8 11-8.

In the battle between the top two in Division Two, Milestone B emerged 6-4 winners at Springfield A, but Springfield still maintain a healthy lead at the top.

Jingshun Huang managed an impressive treble which included a 11-3 12-10 6-11 8-11 11-7 win against Phil Burke after the beaten player had earlier won a hard-fought battle against Graham Mendick 11-8 11-8 8-11 6-11 11-5 in the battle between the top two players in the division.

Third-placed Our Lady of Peace C failed to close the gap as they were beaten 7-3 by Our Lady of Peace A, despite a valiant treble from Thomas Lewis, Darek Kaminski’s 11-7 11-13 8-11 11-7 11-8 win against Pradeep Desh proving crucial for the A team.

Steve Woolnough won a topsy-turvey game against Tamir Slobodskoy 11-9 7-11 11-0 7-11 13-11, however it could not prevent Kingfisher F from a 6-4 defeat at Our Lady of Peace B, Alistair Richardson and Johnson Xu both getting trebles for OLOP.

Sonning Sports A maintained their recent good form to beat Sonning Common & Peppard D 6-4, Angus Jones starring for Sonning Common with a maximum which saw a remarkable three-straight victory over Paul Savage.

The real highlight from this match was Sonning Sports Bob Woodmansee playing his 2,000th league table tennis singles set for the club, having started in 1978.

He marked this memorable occasion by coming back from two games down to beat Eric Walker 11-2 in the fifth.

In the battle of the bottom two teams, Curzon Club B secured a vital 7-3 win over Kingfisher E, Nick Lean with a treble.

Keith Winter’s maximum helped Tilehurst Methodists A secure a 5-5 draw with Pangbourne WMC.

Adrian Wegrzynowski hit a great treble to help Springfield C in Division Three as they beat Sonning Common & Peppard E 7–3.

Peter Gurney and Rob Wilkie both won two to help Springfield B win 6-4 at Reading FC A, while Tilehurst Methodists B stormed to the top of the table by beating Sonning Sports B 10–0.

Nigel Rowland, Eric Van Looy and Martin Wetherell were the men who did the damage.

Kingfisher G maintained their unbeaten record by winning 7-3 at Tidmarsh D, with David Wells and Joaquin both hitting maximums.

Trebles from Simon Craig and Spencer Harvey helped Tidmarsh C beat Our Lady of Peace D 9–1.

In Division Four, Sonning Common & Peppard G were victorious against Reading FC B, winning 6-4 thanks to doubles from each of Anthony Reeve, Marko Madzar and Ian Davenport, which meant Joe Bull’s treble for Reading FC was not enough.

Despite a treble for Roy Hull, Tilehurst Methodists C succumbed to a further defeat, losing 6-4 away to Kennet Valley Free Church B, with Lewis Oke, Toby Barter and Steve Christelow each winning two for Kennet Valley.

Sonning Common & Peppard F recorded their season’s best win with the 10-0 defeat of Springfield D, Julian James, Mike Casserley and Gerry Bacon all recording maximums.

Kingfisher I narrowly lost 6-4 to Sonning Sports C, with Gill Bennett and Meriel Low both recording doubles while, for Sonning Sports, Jude O’Halloran recorded his first treble, with Michael Byrne and Mo Cole also recording one win apiece.

Our Lady of Peace E won a closely-fought encounter with Tidmarsh E, emerging as 6-4 winners thanks to a treble from Chris Bunn, a double from Andrew Adair and a single from Jan Polnik.

Tidmarsh’s points came courtesy of the doubles, two wins for Roger Stevens and one win for Steve Andrews.

Milestone C ran out 6-4 winners against Springfield E following Oliver Bonser’s treble and a double from John Evans, with Colin Jones recording two wins for Springfield, while Julian Lancaster and Marcello Caramma each recorded one win.
