THIS was our second RDAA senior match on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Froxfield this season, writes Alan Hughes.

Forty-six anglers were booked in for this match and the match day weather was mainly dry, overcast and mild and with a slight breeze blowing.

Total match weight was 115lbs 2ozs at an average weight of 2lbs 9ozs per angler.

The top three teams on the day were with TRBLAS with 30lbs 14ozs, Reading Fishing Club with 29lbs 7ozs and Courage with 10lbs 5ozs.

The match was won by Paul Wilding of Adventure AS.

Fishing two pegs above Lock 71 on Froxfield C section, he banked skimmers to 1lb along with roach, perch and gudgeon, fishing pole tactics, feeding groundbait, with red maggot and pinkie on the hook to record a weight of 7lbs 12ozs.

Colin Shepherd of Reading Fishing Club was second. Fishing between the moored up boats on Froxfield A, he banked skimmer bream to 12ozs, fishing pole tactics, feeding groundbait, with caster and pinkie on the hook to record a weight of 7lbs 5ozs.

Paul Leek of Pangbourne & Whitchurch was third. Fishing three pegs above the second Ash Tree on Froxfield B section.

He netted one bream of 3lbs along with smaller skimmers and used similar tactics to the top two to record a weight of 7lbs.

Section weights: A section – 26lbs 3ozs, B section – 26lbs 14ozs, C section – 14lbs 4ozs, D section – 21lbs 12ozs and E section – 26lbs 1oz.

With one match left the Club Championship leaders are TRBLAS with 141lbs 15ozs and in second place are Courage with 152lbs 4ozs.

The Individual Weight is led by Ian Claridge with 32lbs 15ozs and followed by John Jackson with 30lbs 3ozs.

The roles are reversed in the points table with Jackson leading with 48 points and Claridge has 40.

December 30 saw the annual Open match at Froxfield.

Thirty-six anglers took part and the total match weight was 125lbs 7ozs at an average weight of 3lbs 8ozs per angler.

The match was won by Rob Stephen of Thames Valley Angling.

Fishing the first peg below Lock 70 on Froxfield A, he banked skimmers to 1lb, along with perch and roach, to record a weight of 20lbs 9ozs.

Colin Shepherd of Browning Crowsports was second. Fishing the first peg below Lock 68 on Froxfield A, Shepherd banked skimmer bream to 2lbs 8ozs and perch to 2lbs. He weighed in 16lbs 7ozs.

Simon Drew of Sensas Oakwood was third. Fishing the first peg above the power lines on Froxfield A section, he banked perch to 1lb along with roach and gudgeon to record a weight of 9lbs 12ozs.
