RAMPAGING Rams RFC maintained their 10-point lead at the top of National Two South with an emphatic 53-0 victory at struggling Birmingham & Solihull.

Their 11th consecutive victory in the league leaves them top of the table going into the festive break and firmly on course for promotion.

Seb Reynolds’ side look unstoppable at the moment and second-placed Canterbury and Henley in third will need to up their game considerably if they are to catch the Old Bath Road club.

Sadly for second-bottom Birmingham & Solihull, they were simply outclassed on their home ground as driving rain and strong winds failed to knock Rams out of their stride.

In fact, this was Rams’ biggest win of the season and Reynolds beamed: “The performance of the entire squad was very good.

“The conditions provided a difficult test against a Birmingham side coming off the back of an impressive away win against Barnes.

“We had to secure a solid platform as their scrum and line out is very good.

“In inclement weather sometimes the backs can be found trying to stay warm, but they were excellent, full of energy and enthusiasm, while Alex Seers’ tactical kicking was first class.”

He added: “Credit must go to forwards coach Owen Root and defence coach Danny Batty. On days like that you have to have fundamental reasons for playing the game. Matches in the freezing cold aren’t always enjoyable but the players’ togetherness was there to see and came through in spades.”

It didn’t take long for Rams to assert their dominance against the Bees, with Jamar Richardson chasing his own kick ahead to score their first try.

Rams controlled the remainder of the first half with Ben Henderson, the league’s joint-top try scorer, adding to his tally before Seers and Ross Crame also dotted down to secure the bonus point.

There was no let up in the second half with the silver-heeled Conor Corrigan collecting a clever Seers kick to score in the corner.

That led to a flurry of tries from Crame and Greg Illingworth as Rams pulled further away.

Rams also finished strongly and saw fit-again Rob Stapley cross the whitewash and a penalty try complete the scoring on a miserable day for the hosts.

Rams host London Irish Wild Geese this Saturday, though Reynolds warned: “The Birmingham game is now done and next week is another challenge against a dangerous side.”
