FOOTBALL Ben Cook has been dished up a double dose of misery by Binfield.

Last week he played for Reading City when they lost 3-2 at home to the Moles after his goal had put them 2-1 ahead.

Shortly afterwards, the young midfielder was transferred to Hellenic League rivals Wantage Town and made his debut for them last Monday – at Binfield.

Again, Ben finished on the losing side, with the Moles winning 3-1 after a match which saw both sides finish with 10 men following separate incidents.

Wantage were managed by Ben Sadler, who made a quickish U-turn after resigning in October for "personal reasons".

At the time he was strongly linked with Reading City even though the recently-appointed joint managers Andy Findlay and Rob Creech had got their season off to a flying start.

But Sadler was never appointed, then Findlay stepped down, followed a short time later by Creech, with Andy then returning last month in a new role of director of football.

Sadler has since returned to Wantage and showed he has not lost his enthusiasm, continually giving the young match officials at Binfield plenty of stick during the game.

Binfield's Reading-based defender Jack Thomson-Wheeler broke his fibula during the game in a strong challenge from Wantage midfielder Ryan Markham, who on Tuesday took to Twitter to apologise, saying "it wasn't intentional", and sent his best wishes to Jack for a speedy recovery.

DARRELL Freeland, a popular figure in Berkshire non-league football circles, is continuing to make steady progress from his serious heart surgery in a London hospital

Dudley said he was "overwhelmed" by the hundred of messages of support he has received – including one from |Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho – and said he is getting stronger every day, adding: "I will keep fighting and will see you all soon."

ALL four ties in a very strong Berks & Bucks Senior Cup quarter-final line-up are now confirmed with two due to take place next Tuesday with Hungerford meeting Slough and Marlow hosting Milton Keynes Dons.

Dates are still awaited for Reading FC Under 23s' trip to Hellenic League side Flackwell Heath and the game between Aylesbury United and Maidenhead United.
