NEW Reading City manager Simon Johnson bemoaned an ‘awful’ first-half performance as his side lost 3-0 at Virginia Water in the Premier Division on Saturday, writes Richard Ashton.

Lenny Di Felice, Adam Mills and Jamie Read all struck in the opening 45 minutes to put the hosts in control, and while City improved after the break, they were unable to make an impact on the Waters goal.

And Johnson admitted: “The first half was awful, but the second-half performance was good. We need to find a full 90-minute performance.”

Reading City host Shrivenham this coming Saturday (3pm).

WOODLEY United returned to winning ways in Division One East with a thrilling 4-3 home victory against Abingdon Town on Saturday.

Max Laschok put the Kestrels in front in the 10th minute, only for Jamar Smith to level matters just 90 seconds later.

Woodley were back in front on 21 minutes after Laschok converted a penalty awarded after Leon Mannion was fouled in the box, only for the visitors to level for the second time when Marlon James levelled matters just after the half-hour mark.

Pablo Fernandez put the home side 3-2 up seven minutes before the interval, and they doubled their advantage 14 minutes into the second half when the impressive Mannion fired home.

Adam Doyle pulled a goal back for Town to set up a grandstand finish, but Woodley held their nerve to see out the victory.

Woodley followed up the win by advancing in the Aldershot Senior Cup with a comfortable 3-0 success at Farnham Town on Tuesday night.

A devastating opening 20 minutes saw the Kestrels score all three goals, Harry Hawkins opening their account in the seventh minute before Fernandez and Toby Briggs effectively put the game to bed.

Woodley United visit Holyport in the league on Saturday (3pm), before hosting Binfield in the Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup on Monday night (7.45pm).

AFC Aldermaston crashed out of the Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup following a 3-1 defeat at Thornbury Town on Tuesday night.

Marcus Wormwell gave the home side a 17th-minute lead, and that was doubled by Asher Budd.

Matt Wilkins pulled a goal back for the visitors seven minutes before the interval, but as the hosts threw men forward, Budd grabbed his second in second-half stoppage-time to kill off Aldermaston's hopes of advancing.

The Atom Men saw their game against Wokingham & Emmbrook postponed due to a waterlogged pitch on Saturday.

Aldermaston host Abingdon Town in the league this coming Saturday (3pm).
