GOALKEEPER Myles Roberts, who had an outstanding game for Reading Under 23s when they won 2-0 at Bracknell Town in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup last week, did not have such a happy debut for Wealdstone.

Stones boss Bobby Wilkinson signed the highly-regarded teenager on loan after watching him perform heroics at Larges Lane.

His side lost 3-0 to Eastbourne Borough on Saturday in National League South and there were differing views on how Roberts performed.

One report said "Had he not pulled off some brilliant saves the scoreline would have been much greater," while another suggested "Myles was out of his depth".

FORMER Reading Under 23s coach Martin Kuhl is the new manager of Southern League Premier Division South side Basingstoke Town.

The Pro Licenced coach, who worked at Reading under Brian McDermott, Nigel Adkins and Jaap Stam, was appointed after Jason Bristow had moved on to Eastleigh.

Kuhl teams up again with Terry Brown, having previously both enjoyed success at Aldershot Town when he was their coach.

The 53-year-old said he had been looking to become a manager for some time and was delighted when Brown, Basingstoke's director of football, got in touch.

One player no longer with Basingstoke is Mitchell Parker, who last week ended a short spell with them after joining from Reading City.

Having played for Bracknell in pre-season before going back to City, the striker has since been linked with Farnborough, Marlow and North Leigh United, and that will mean him playing for four different clubs before Christmas.

And he is also still buzzing from captaining England C when they played two games in the Falkland Islands last month.

ALICE Powell, who has played hockey for Reading, is among those aiming to compete in the new all-female motor racing championship, the W Series.

In 2010 she became the first woman to win a Formula Renault championship and two years later she was the first woman to score points in the GP3 Series.

In recent seasons she has been kept off the track by a lack of financial backing, but now the 25-year-old is on track to return to racing as she is among more than 50 hopefuls bidding for 20 places in the F1 series due to start next spring.
