MATCHES were in short supply last weekend as seems to be the norm for the last Sunday in the month, writes Alan Hughes.

The only club match was at Wallingford B section at Benson, where Prestcold AC were the visitors.

This time of year chub are the target species to be found close to the far bank on this venue, but Prestcold found the skimmers feeding on the groundbait feeder with red maggot as hook bait.

Mark Steadman took the honours with 15lbs 9ozs.

Just 3ozs behind Steadman was Geoff Eley and Graham Hawkins completed the top three with 15lbs 4ozs.

These are excellent weights for this time of year.

The only other involvement for local clubs was the Shire Winter League where TRBLAS and Courage were involved.

This was held on the RDAA stretch of the Kennet & Avon Canal at Froxfield.

Aaron Phillips won the match with 12lbs 6ozs of perch and skimmers.

Steve O’Keefe won his section with 9lbs 4ozs of mainly perch.

This is a good sign for the venue where the next association match will take place this coming weekend.

The draw for this match will take place in the Borough Arms which is found at 77, High Street, Hungerford.

Breakfast will be available from 7am.
