LAST weekend saw four Affiliated Clubs on the RDAA waters with two on the Thames, and one each on the River Kennet and the Kennet & Avon Canal, writes Alan Hughes.

Tring Anglers held their match on the Beat 5 stretch of the Kennet at Berkeley Avenue.

Faced with a clear low river the nine anglers did not expect much and it turned out to be hard.

The match was won by Martin Rodwell with 3lbs 3ozs which included a 3lbs 3ozs chub caught late in the match.

In second place was Andy Allday who weighed in 15ozs of small silver fish and Tony Beadle claimed third spot with 5ozs consisting of a small perch and a gudgeon.

Courage AC used the Wallingford A stretch at Benson for their match.

The match was contested by six anglers who could only find small fish willing to feed.

Ian Claridge took the honours with 4lbs 13ozs.

Second place went to Fred Jones who amassed 2lbs 2ozs.

T.R.B.L.A.S. were on the Wallingford B section and this venue normally produces the larger chub and the odd barbel, but strangely small fish were again the order of the day.

Steve Drakeford elected to fish a large float down the centre of the river and this produced a steady stream of roach which gave him top spot with 8lbs 4ozs.

Second place went to Paul Leek with 4lbs 5ozs and Pete Godfrey claimed the third spot with 4lbs 4ozs which did contain one perch of 1lb plus.

Salmon Cut A section of the K & A Canal was the venue for Reading Civil Service and for two matches in a row Les Hannington took the honours with 1lbs 8ozs which consisted of roach and perch.

Gordon McGee took the runner-up with spot similar species which weighed in at 10ozs.

Completing the trio was Richard Munday with the same species for 4ozs.
