SILVER medals for the Under 13 girls, and bronze for both the U17 men and U17 women were the highlights for Reading Athletic Club's young athletes in the Berks Bucks and Oxon Cross Country Championships at the Newbury Showground on Sunday, while individually both Ben Rollings and Hermione Walker from the U17 teams finished fourth.

In the U17 men's 6km race, Rollings grabbed fourth in a time of 19min 56secs, with Mattie Raynor (20.22) and Tom Rickards (20.47) 10th and 11th to see the team finish one point behind runners-up Bracknell.

In the women's event, Walker (22.41) also took fourth, and with Abi Hancock (23.15) eighth and Georgia Whalley (24.01) 10th, Reading took the bronze medal.

Reading's B team also ran well for sixth with Renee Whalley 13th in 24.28, Oonagh O'Driscoll 22nd (25.30) and Lara Tolson 24th (25.37).

Reading's U15 girls were led home in their 4km race by Mia Waldman, with a fine run for ninth place in 15.16, and with Talia Painting (14th in 15.50) and Katie Barnes (16th in 16.03) running well, Reading came fourth place in the team race.

Jemima Crocker (17th in 16.09), Scarlet Taplin (21st in 16.35) and Beau Burton (27th in 17.27) combined well to give Reading's B team eighth place, while Anna Macklin hung on well for 29th in 18.46.

For the U15 boys, Laurie Baker (11th in 13.37), Aryan Gupta and Ben McCabe (25th in 14.51) combined for sixth, while Elio Babb came 27th in 15.05.

Ella Newman (sixth in 13.17), Holly Haldane (seventh in 13.26) and Lydia Godfrey (13th in 14.16) combined to take silver in their 3.5kn contest.

The B team of Emma Yeadon (29th in 15.13), Elizabeth Ryan (32nd in 15.38) and Zoe Rennie (33rd in 15.41) finished ninth, and Mollie Barnes took 39th place in 17.17.

The U13 boys claimed fifth thanks to Samuel Lindsey-Halls (13th in 13.09), Charlie Rickards (18th in 13.22) and Dylan Madden (22nd in 13.41), while the B team of Nick Haldane (26th in 13.53), Victor Sanz-Bueno 31st in 14.15) and Adam Tivey in (32nd in 14.21) took eighth.

George Huggett (35th in 14.43), Elliott McCarthy (38th in 14.52) and George Godfrey (39th in 15.03) gave Reading's C team 12th place, while Rio Scott-Smith, who had unluckily missed the start, finished 43rd in 16.32.
