READING FC Women made it back-to-back Women’s Super League 1 victories with a 4-1 success at Brighton.

Kelly Chambers’ Royals showed no signs of rustiness after a two-week international break with an assured display on Sunday to follow their 3-0 home win over Bristol City.

Fara Williams’ seventh league goal of the league was among the highlights for the visitors as they claimed a fourth WSL1 victory of the campaign.

Williams was unlucky not to score early on when she was teed up by Rachel Furness, only for her shot to rebound off the post and into the net off the back of Seagulls keeper Marie Hourihan for an unfortunate own goal.

Brooke Chaplen then went close with a curling effort from the edge of the box before the same Reading player was denied by Hourihan soon after.

The visitors continued to dominate with Jo Potter almost scoring direct from a corner when her delivery struck the upright.

The game burst into life around the hour mark when both sides found the net.

First, Chaplen collected a Furness through ball before rifling home to put Reading 2-0 ahead.

However, Brighton replied two minutes later when Aileen Whelan headed past Grace Maloney from Imi Umotong’s cross.

Royals, though, restored their two-goal advantage thanks to a Williams stunner in the 65th minute.

England’s most capped player drove home from long range to continue her excellent start to the season.

There was still time left for Reading to add a fourth through a deflected effort from substitute Gemma Davison nine minutes from time, before Maloney made a smart save to deny Sophie Perry at the death.

Chambers said: “We didn’t come out with the aggression I wanted or the pace we needed.

“It was all just a bit slow, but we made sure we took the game to Brighton in the second half and came away with the result we deserve.”
