WHITEKNIGHTS ladies bowed out of the Vivienne Trophy after a 65-63 home defeat to Egham.

Whiteknight won three out of four rinks only to narrowly lose out on overall shot difference.

The ladies also lost 88-77 at home to Desborough in the Yetton Trophy.

Whiteknights men reached the third round of the Denny Cup thanks to an impressive 77-34 win against West Berks and an 84-76 success against Westlecot.

Whiteknights lost 111-106 at home to London Scottish in a friendly.

They won on three rinks including a top rink of Gordon Orchard (skip), Alan Cowell, Alan Melville and Edna Orchard, winning by nine shots.

Whiteknights lost another tight game at home to Desborough 94-84 despite a top rink of Barry Brown (skip), Seb Beames, Dave Parker and Viv Harper, plus nine shots.

Rivermead

Rivermead men set up a clash with Oxford City and County after thrashing Swindon Manor 106-53 in the national Denny Cup first round.

John Eatwell’s home rink ran riot, restricting Swindon to just four single shots to finish 33-4 winners.

Peter Slatford’s rink came from 17-14 down after 17 ends to win 27-17.

Skip Ted McDonnell’s away rink raced to an 18-8 lead, and then fended off a late surge from Swindon to win 24-20.

A strong front end of Peter Curtis and Geoff Tombs was critical in that Tony Partridge was never behind on his rink and, picking up six shots in the last four ends, won 22-12.

Reading Ladies also achieved a clean sweep of winning rinks when they overcame Handy Cross 92-66 in the Yetton Plate.

Daphne Jacob’s rink of Catherine Wooldridge, Helen Woodley and Jane Howman won 28-10.

Pat Fowkes’ rink fought scraped an impressive win by a single shot.

Both home rinks of Beryl Bradbrook and Sylvia Blackmore held off late pressure to secure victories.
