READING Rockets enjoyed a superb weekend as they recorded a brace of victories on the road to lift their NBL Division One record to 3-2.

Despite slipping 12-2 down early on at Leicester Warriors on Saturday evening, Rockets turned the tables to secure a convincing 96-82 victory.

They overcame their early lethargy to move 25-16 up by the end of the first quarter, and by half-time they had extended their advantage to 51-36.

Warriors fought back in the third stanza, cutting the gap to 71-61, but Rockets held their nerve to seal a comfortable success in the final stages.

Top scorers for Rockets were A J Carr with 21 points, 16 rebounds and eight assists, Sydney Donaldson with 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists, and captain Danny Carter, who chipped in with 17 points, taking down six rebounds and having eight assists.

Alan Keane's men followed up with another impressive success the following day, overcoming Bradford Dragons 95-89 as they closed out the game from 84-84 with a little less than five minutes remaining.

Rockets impressed in the opening period to surge into a 28-21 lead, although the home side pulled it back to a one-point deficit at 49-48 by the interval.

Bradford appeared to have put themselves in control by moving 77-70 in front by the end of the third quarter, but Rockets fought back and secured the win.

Carr was again outstanding with 26 points and six rebounds, while Trae Pemberton chipped in with 19 points and five rebounds.

Sydney Donaldson and Danny Carter had 16 points each and Adrian O’Sullivan also hit 10.

Rockets are back in action at Rivermead Leisure Complex when they host Hemel Storm (1-3) on Sunday (5pm), and captain Carter is hoping his side can continue their improved form.

He said: “It was a great weekend of growth for us this past weekend but that’s behind us now.

"We are already focusing on an extremely talented Hemel team who will be coming to even the season score after our win a few weeks ago (117-95 in the National Trophy).

"Our goal is to continue to improve on what we work on every day and this week is another opportunity to do that.”
