BBC Caversham's cricket team looked in danger of being given out for good following the BBC's decision to sell their historic site at Caversham Park. That would have been a great shame, especially as they are in their 75th year.

But this socially-minded side could well be playing on, as they have been talking to Woodcote CC about playing there on a Sunday afternoon.

The village green club describe themselves as a "small and friendly club" so it could be a good move for the Beeb boys.

Peter and Sue Jones, who have done a great deal for the BBC over the years, were among the guests at the Berkshire cricket dinner a couple of weeks ago.

JACK Davies has become the second Reading-born cricketer this year to join the professional ranks with Middlesex.

The 18-year-old Berkshire and Henley player, agreed a two-year contract with the club until the end of 2020.

A regular for Middlesex 2nds last season, Davies joins a squad which includes Martin Andersson, who also signed a two-year contract in September.

Former Wellington College student Davies commented: “I am very proud to sign for Middlesex, delighted with the opportunity and am looking forward to very exciting times ahead.”

READING FC's Berks & Bucks Senior Cup tie at Bracknell Town will no longer be the Royals' first appearance at the Larges Lane ground.

For the club are to stage Under 15 games on the 3G pitch, starting next Tuesday when Wolverhampton Wanderers will be the visitors.

The Senior Cup tie was scheduled for last Tuesday, but had to be called off due to Bracknell being involved in a FA Trophy replay at Bognor Regis. It will now be played on Tuesday, November 27.

SONNING-BASED Max McNeill and his family were left celebrating on Tuesday when two race horses they own won at Chepstow.

Senior Citizen, a 5/1 shot, and 2/5 favourite The Worlds End both triumphed, giving them their first-ever double on the same day. Trained by Alan King and Tom George respectively, both winners were ridden by Adrian Heskin.
