READING FC Under 23s came from behind to beat Stoke City 2-1 at Hogwood Park to extend their unbeaten run to nine games.

It was Royals third straight win in Premier League 2 Division 2 to leave them second in the table and a point behind leaders Wolves.

Scott Marshall’s hosts fell behind in the third minute when Potters defender Simranjit Thandi put the visitors in front.

But first-year scholar Michael Olise equalised midway through the first half on his first start for the Under 23s.

Royals then took the lead in the 37th minute thanks to Josh Barrett’s fourth goal of the campaign and Marshall’s young side held on from there to clinch the victory.

Reading U23: Driscoll, Balogun, Green, Odimayo, McIntyre (Burley 46), Sidoel, Lawless (Omolabi 84), Nolan, Barrett (Nevers 64), Olise, Liddle. Subs not used: Roberts, Wallace.

Stoke City U23: Gyollai, Thandi, Tymon, Wara, Forrester (Niakete 33), Waddington (Szereto 71), Dunwood, Pemberton, Jarvis, Shenton, Kyeremateng (Jennings 57). Subs not used: Deczki, Diallo.

The victory ended an impressive week for the U23s who drew 2-2 with Sparta Prague B at Madejski Stadium last Wednesday night to maintain their unbeaten start in the Premier League International Cup.

Reading broke the deadlock early in the second half through after Loader had been hauled down in the box by Sparta skipper Marian Burda.

Loader’s spot-kick was saved but the teenager striker reacted quickest by tucking away the rebound.

The Czech top-flight visitors stormed back and went 2-1 in front with goals from Ondrej Novotny and Vojtech Patrak.

But the hosts grabbed a point thanks to Loader’s an injury-time header after Teddy Howe’s initial effort had come back off the post.

A victory in their final group match against Feyenoord in December could be enough to see Royals through to the knockout stages.

Reading U23: Legg, Howe, Medford-Smith, East (C), Burley, McIntyre, Rollinson (Sidoel 65), Frost (Olise 73), House, Loader, Barrett (Nolan 73). Subs not used: Driscoll, Odimayo, Liddle, Lawless.

Sparta Prague B: Heca, Penc, Burda (C), Alhassan, Dudl, Cabadaj, Patrak (Snajdr 80), Novotny (Rynes 86), Konopasek, Wiesner (Simacek 44), Flak. Subs not used: Janacek, Stetina, Alexandr.
