THERE is little doubt London Irish are the form team in the Greene King IPA Championship at the moment, and they showed no mercy in making it six straight wins with a 72-5, 12-try trouncing of Madejski Stadium visitors and bottom club Yorkshire Carnegie on Saturday.

Declan Kidney’s men are still not top of the table as Ealing Trailfinders are two points ahead of them – albeit having played one more game than Irish – but this was definitely their best performance to date.

The forwards were outstanding with Aussie prop Ollie Hoskins grabbing a hat-trick, and Exiles will be looking to maintain their perfect start with a trip up north to face third-from-from bottom Doncaster Knights on Saturday.

Hopefully it will be a special day for wing Topsy Ojo, who’ll break the clubs individual appearance record with his 291st outing having scored as he equalled David Paice’s mark against Carnegie.

Rams too were in the points last Saturday, crushing visitors Guernsey 48-14 to build up a four point lead at the top of National Two South.

They were in scintillating form in the opening 50 minutes – racking up all their points with eight tries – and then showed their defensive prowess in the final quarter to stop the Islanders from gaining a try bonus-point of their own.

Seb Reynolds’ men could barely have made a better start to the season, and the title hopefuls will be looking to keep it going at home to fifth-placed Tonbridge Juddian on Saturday.

As for my boys Reading, fresh from a week off, we travel to fourth-place Stow-on-the-Wold in Southern Counties North.

We know it is not going to be an easy game, but the boys are looking to put in another good performance and are still on a high following the last game when we thrashed Slough, 39-5.

Coach Ben Wills had said that performance was coming, but the sign of a good team is to back it up. Hopefully we will be fielding a strong team and we can get the result needed down there.

Reading Abbey also make the short hop up the M4 to face Slough, who sit just one place above them in the league table.

They will need to sharpen up their act considerably after their loss to Windsor the previous week as they look to get back to winning ways. Mind you, they are still ahead of Reading in the table.

Lastly, Berkshire Shire Hall return to BB&O Championship action as they visit unbeaten-in-five table-toppers Chipping Norton.

Here’s hoping for a good set of results all round.
