THERE’s no sign of London Irish letting up and they turned in probably their best performance of the Greene King IPA Championship season so far with a 54-17 win at London Scottish on Sunday.

It was the ideal time to do so as they ran in eight tries in front of the Sky Sports cameras, with Stephen Myler again putting in a masterclass at fly-half.

It was also a special day for young academy graduate Ben Atkins, with the hooker making his first-team debut late on, and also South African second row, Sebastian De Chaves, who collected his 50th cap for Exiles.

Irish will hope to keep up their form and pile on the points again this Saturday when they welcome basement boys Yorkshire Carnegie to Madejski Stadium.

Rams also continued their fine start to the National Two South season and stayed top by battling the elements in a 26-19 bonus-point triumph at Barnes.

Seb Reynolds’ side were again indebted to their pack, who secured a brace of penalty tries in the second half to edge them over the line.

This Saturday Guernsey arrive at Old Bath Road as Rams seek to make it six wins from seven.

As for my boys Reading, what a performance!

Coach Ben Wills said something was coming despite losing our opening three Southern Counties North affairs, but we really turned on the style as we hammered Berkshire rivals Slough 39-5.

The try bonus-point had been wrapped up by half-time as the side finally showed their potential, aided by the return of Dan Witko at fly-half and No. 8 Rob Cunningham, who put in a tour de force after coming back from a 10-month injury lay-off.

There were also a pair of impressive debuts from full back Andy Gallagher and second row Gavin Egan, and after a week off, if we play like that again we should give Stow-on-the-Wold a really tough test.

Up the road at Rose Hill, Reading Abbey’s poor first-half display cost them in a 24-5 loss to Windsor.

They have Slough next and I’m sure Luke Harding will expect a reaction from his charges, who did at least improve substantially in the second period.
