SOME inspired goalkeeping by Loxwood stopper Tom McNelly helped his side make a point in a thrilling 4-4 draw with Maiden Place in Division One.

Man-of-the-match McNelly pulled off five stunning saves in the first half to keep his side in touch as they only trailed 2-1 at the break.

And this proved crucial as Loxwood came from behind four times to clinch a draw thanks to a late double by Dan Pringle.

After falling behind early on, Loxwood hit back when striker Jamie Turner finally ended his barren spell with a stunning long-range volley.

Shortly afterwards the rejuvenated striker had to hobble off with a knee problem and to add insult to injury former Loxwood player Jose Robiero then gave Maiden Place a 2-1 interval lead when he pounced on a rebound in the box.

However, Maiden Place then shot themselves in the foot when they were reduced to 10 men early in the second half and Loxwood took advantage when two new signings combined to level the scores as Lee Chaffey crossed for Dan Tait to volley home from eight yards out.

There were then four goals in an incredible last seven-minute spell. Maiden Place made it 3-2 from the spot in the 84th minute after skipper Luke Parsons was adjudged to have handled on the line, but Pringle made it 3-3 when he headed home three minutes later.

Almost immediately Maiden Place thought they had scored the winner when another former Loxwood player Mikey Jones hammered home from the edge of the box.

However, Loxwood were not to be denied a gutsy point and in the 91st minute, Pringle nodded in at the far post to leave the honours even.
