READING FC boss Paul Clement gave an injury update as his squad prepare to take on Brentford at Griffin Park this Saturday (3pm ko).

Several players are nearing returns, though John O’Shea will serve a one-match ban following his red card in the 3-0 win against Hull City last weekend.

But long-term casualty Jordan Obita is still a long way off full fitness and is currently in Italy in a bid to speed things up.

Here’s what Clement said about the fitness of his squad.

On Jordan Obita: "There are on-going issues with the knee and I don't see a return for him in the short term.

"He's at a medical facility in Italy with Jon Urwin (physio) for further treatment to see if we can accelerate the process.”

Goalkeeper Vito Mannone: “He trained today so I'll have a good look at him tomorrow.”

Defender Tyler Blackett: "Tyler has trained since the start of the week.”

David Meyler and Paul McShane: "They are very close to joining team training, it's imminent. We are just waiting for a medical report.”

Garath McCleary and Callum Harriott: "Garath is training, Callum the same. We're building up the volume but they have missed a lot of time so you have to make sure they don't break down again and are fit and well enough to contribute to the team.

"The rest are pretty good."

Dave Edwards: "Dave is still out with the knee and no closer. He missed the team photo on Wednesday through illness."

Omar Richards: "Omar Richards is more long-term, the hip and groin are needs to settle down so he's still under medical treatment."

Reading make the short trip to Griffin Park following two wins from their last three Championship games.
