WOODLEY United were beaten for pace in a Reading & District Sunday League Division 1 encounter, crashing to a heavy defeat against a young and spritely Twyford Comets team.

Woodley were able to contain Twyford in the first half and went into half-time just 1-0 down thanks to some fine saves by keeper Kieran Ronaldo-Ford.

Twyford edged further ahead minutes into the second half, but were pegged back soon after when Woodley man-of-the-match Adam Richardson fed Jon Norris, who cut inside and dinked the ball over the keeper to bring the score to 2-1.

Woodley tired as the match went on and conceded four more breakaway goals to lose the game 6-1.

Loxwood Park Rangers finally got their delayed start to the season underway with a county cup victory away at Bracknell Leaguers Winkfield.

Goals from Kieran Giles, Michael Flatman and Daniel Pringle sealed their side’s passage through to the second round of the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup after a 3-2 success.

But the game might not have even gone ahead if both teams hadn’t agreed to referee a half each as no official had been appointed for the clash.

Winkfield sub Paul Whittington kindly agreed to take the whistle for the first half while Loxwood’s Will Graham took charge of the second and both clubs would like to say a massive thank you to both of them for making sure the tie went ahead.

After a tense opening 20 minutes, Loxwood started to gain the upper hand and midfielder Kieran Giles fired his side into a 29th minute lead from the edge of the box after being teed up by skipper Luke Parsons.

And eight minutes later Parsons was again the creator as his free kick was headed home by centre back Flatman.

A rare lapse of concentration at the back allowed Winkfield to reduce the arrears just before half time but it wasn’t long before the two-goal cushion was restored when Jonny Austin fed Pringle and he coolly lobbed the keeper to make it 3-1 in the 53rd minute.

The visitors had further chances to kill the game off completely but failed to find the target which meant the team endured a nervous last 10 minutes when Winkfield pulled another goal back in the closing stages.

Man of the match for Loxwood was centre back Rhys Bell who gave a solid display at the heart of the defence.
