WOODLEY United Ladies made it two wins out of two in the Southern Premier Division after a 2-1 victory over Barton Rovers Ladies.

Woodley are now one of three teams with a 100 per cent record and sit in third place on goal difference.

Woodley were slow out of the blocks, but their patience was rewarded when Barton’s Chloe Procter brought down May Hamblin for a penalty that Rosie Page-Smith converted on 15 minutes.

Barton saw an equaliser ruled out for offside before Woodley keeper Nicole Haines pushed Ellise Lowe’s effort over the bar.

However, a tweak in formation made all the difference for Woodley who added a second goal on 83 minutes when substitute Faye Ward stabbed home from Amie Benton’s cross for her first goal for the club.

Rachel Allwright did grab a consolation for Rovers in stoppage time, but it was too little, too late.

Woodley host second-placed Winchester City Flyers at Bulmershe Pavilion this Sunday.

Woodley: Haines, Evans, Wilkins, Sawyer, Surtees, Thompson, Penny, Pearson, Page-Smith, Thomas, Hamblin. Subs used: Benton, Cooke and Ward.

Barton Rovers

KATY Cresswell scored two late goals as Barton Rovers Royals Ladies came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Kingsclere Ladies in Thames Valley Division Two.

Newbury

NEWBURY Ladies suffered a heavy 11-0 at Southampton in their opening Southern Premier Division fixture on Sunday.

Newbury, who trailed 7-0 at the break, travelled with a depleted side and ended with nine players after yet more further injuries.

Ironically, Newbury Ladies Development beat Thatcham Town Ladies 11-0 in Thames Valley Counties League Division Two on the same day.

Bec Walker (4), Kendal Gilmour (4), Maria Rodrigues, Jazz Bird and Nicole Beasley got the goals.
