READING AC’s combined Under 15 and U13 team became national champions of the UK Youth Development League with a brilliant performance at Bedford on Saturday, finishing just seven-and-a-half points clear of Blackheath & Bromley and Preston.

In the sprint hurdles, U13 girls Tomi Adejuwon and Erin Begley took gold, with Reuben Jones snaffling silver in the boys’ event. U15s Sammy Ball and Matthew Kirk took bronze and silver respectively.

In the U13 boys’ 100m, Reuben Anthony-Deyemo took silver in a time of 12.97secs, while Nathan King took gold in the 100m B event.

Kirsty Treglown took bronze in the U15 100m A race, Ellie Gilder silver in the 200m, and Gabriel Isaacs grabbed second spot in both the boys’ 100m and 200m.

Reuben Henry-Daire added a silver before winning the 300m.

U13 Aiden Marshall cruised to victory in the 800m, while 1,500m runner Edward Lewis took silver and Evie Elson and Ella Newman both ran well to take the bronze.

The U13 boys – Billy Cain, Jones, Anthony-Deyemo and Edward Mercer-Gray – snatched bronze in the 4x100m, while both the U15 girls (Fatou Gaye, Liani Thompson, Gilder and Treglown) and boys (Tariq Skeete, Isaacs, Hagen Mzee and Henry-Daire) grabbed second place.

The U15 boys – Kirk, Ball, Joe Frew and Henry-Daire – ran away with the 4x300m race to take the gold four seconds clear of their rivals.

On the field, Kirk took bronze in the B contest with a personal best of 32.17m, while U15 girls Samaia Dhir and Anjelina Manase paired up for all the circle throws and had an impressive day and medal collection.

Dhir gained silver in shot, gold in discus and gold in hammer, while Manase gained gold in shot, gold in discus and silver in hammer with a PB of 34.09m.

Chantal Born took the bronze in U15 javelin with a PB of 27.95m, with Grace Huskinson earning silver in the B event.

The U13 throws saw Hal Rust-D’Eye return from injury and record a new PB in the javelin of 29.82m for silver, and a bronze in the shot.

Finley Hanham took gold in the B shot event by nearly two metres, and Mercer Gray won gold in the B string javelin with a throw of 25.82m.

U13 Mia Greenidge-Knell took silver in the shot, while Ball and Ciaran Murtagh gained silver and gold respectively in the high jump.

Jones collected more medals with a silver in both the long and high jump events, while Mercer Gray gained his third of the day in the long jump with a bronze-medal performance.

King won gold in the high jump and Adejuwon won the long jump with a huge leap of 4.80m.

Godfrey recorded her second PB of the day to take the bronze medal with 4.10m.

Lastly, the pole vault saw another impressive show with Daisy Weiser (A) and Ruby Harris (B) taking the gold medals.
