BRACKNELL Athletic Under 17 Spitfires produced a fine team performance to begin their season with a 2-1 victory at Sandhurst Town U18, writes Richard Ashton.
Spitfires dominated the first half but could only hit the target once through an Owen McConnell super-strike.
Man-of-the-match Harry Clabburn’s excellent free-kick curved around the wall in the second half to double the lead, and while Sandhurst pulled one back in the dying minutes with a lob over keeper Joe Gaffney. Spitfires held on for the victory.
Three cracking goals from the U14 Youth were not enough as they went down 4-3 to FC Bracknell Colts in a seven-goal thriller.
The goalscorers for Athletic were Fabio Vitagliano, Jake Carter and Adam Mendham, while penalty-saving keeper Kye Osborne also played well alongside man-of-the-match Thomas Sussex.
Bracknell Athletic U16 Devils hit the woodwork on several occasions but still came away with a 2-0 home success against Maidenhead FC Santos.
Harvey Bird and Owen Gigg got the goals, while Harry Miles and Felix Pitt were named joint men-of-the-match.
- OLIVER Hallas bagged a brace and Leo Steenvoorden, Nico Ivanec, Tommy Aston and Jonathan Makepeace were also on target as Ascot United U12 Royals hammered Ashridge Park Rovers 6-0.
George Ball got the only goal of the game as the U12 Athletic edged out Hawley Raiders 1-0, while Jacob Derbyshire was the goalscorer for Ascot United U12 Racing in their 1-1 draw with Hawley Colts.
The U12 Colts beat Winnersh Rangers 5-3 in an entertaining affair, but an Alby Gillies strike was not enough for the U12 Chargers in their 2-1 defeat to Marlow.
Ascot United U18 Allied won a barn-storming nine-goal thriller 5-4 against Hartley Wintney, but the U18 Aces crashed to a 4-1 defeat to Bracknell United despite Tom Philpot’s effort.
William Rapley was man-of-the-match as Ascot United U16 Racing lost 4-0 to Caversham Trent Blues, while James Flynn’s goal was enough to secure a share of the spoils for the U16 Youth in a 1-1 draw with Ashford Town Colts.
The U15 Hornets drew 2-2 with Laurel Park Hurricanes, and two Josh Smith penalties and a goal from Sam Evans was enough to help the U15 Youth overcome Guildford Saints 3-1.
The U14 Royals crashed to a 5-2 defeat to Ashridge Park, the U13 Chargers earned a 1-1 draw against Yateley United, and Freddie Grigg’s goal ensured the U13 Raiders picked up a 1-0 win against Whitegrove Leopards.
The Under 13 Crystals hammered Barton Rovers 10-0, the U13 Diamonds battered Teddington Athletic by the same margin and the U13 Emeralds drew 2-2 with Thatcham Town Girls Whites.
