FORTY-FIVE anglers were booked in for a match with the Association Cup and the Fericon Press trophies up for grabs, writes Alan Hughes.

The matchday weather was dry, hot and sunny with a slight but gusty breeze blowing. The River Kennet had a slight colour and was flowing slowly.

Total match weight on the day was 178lbs 12ozs (at an average weight of 4lbs 4ozs per angler).

The top three teams were Courage with 38lbs 6ozs, TRBLAS with 33lbs 9ozs and Reading Fishing Club with 22lbs 1oz.

The match was won by Aaron Philips of Courage.

Fishing on the concrete blocks peg on Beat 5A section, he banked an all-roach catch fishing waggler tactics with single and double red maggot on the hook to record a weight of 8lbs 9ozs.

Geoff Eley of Prestcold AC was second overall. Fishing the confluence of the Holy Brook peg on Beat 5B section, Eley banked mainly roach with a few dace, perch and chublets.

Fishing a combination of stick float and waggler tactics, with red maggot and caster on the hook, to record a weight of 7lbs 13ozs.

Dave Cowley of TRBLAS was third overall. Fishing on the concrete bollards at the bottom of the venue on Beat 5B section, he also banked a mixture of roach, dace and chublets fishing stick float tactics, with red and bronze maggot on the hook, to record a weight of 7lbs 9ozs.

Fourth place was shared between Ian Claridge (Courage) and Richard Rosinski (Reading Fishing Club) with 7lbs 2oz each.

The total section weights were – A Section Beat 3B, 24lbs 1oz; B Section Beat 4A, 33lbs 7ozs; C Section Beat 4B, 29lbs 12oz s; D Section Beat 5A, 33lbs 6ozs; E Section Beat 5B, 37lbs 4ozs.

TRBLAS top the Club Championship with 91lbs 4ozs and Courage follow with 86lbs 3ozs.

The individual aggregate weight trophy is headed by Ian Claridge with 18lbs 3ozs and in second place is John Jackson with 17lbs 2ozs.

Jackson tops the points table with 26 followed by Claridge with 24.
