A HOST of Reading FC players will be heading off on international duty over the coming days.

A number of them will be taking part in the brand new UEFA National League which gets underway later this week.

With Wales and Ireland lumped in the same second-tier Group B4, it means Royals team-mates Chris Gunter and David Meyler could come up against each when the sides meet in Cardiff this Thursday night.

Gunter, who needs five more caps to surpass Neville Southall’s all-time Wales appearance record, has been included in Ryan Giggs’ squad, while Meyler has been recalled by Republic of Ireland.

Wales also face Denmark in Aarhus this Sunday while Ireland take on Poland in Wroclaw next Tuesday.

However, the clash against Denmark has grabbed the headlines after the home nation's players became embroiled in dispute with their FA over commercial rights.

It has even been suggested the game could be called off, or Denmark could field a much weakened team.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson – who missed Reading’s 2-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday with stomach problems – has been named in the Iceland squad for Group A3 clashes against Switzerland in St Gallen this Saturday then home to Belgium in Reykjavik next Tuesday.
