A POOR defensive display saw Reading FC’s dismal run of form continue as Royals suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hand of Sheffield Wednesday.

Captain Liam Moore restored a glimmer of hope for Paul Clement’s side but goals from Adam Reach and Lucas Joao were enough to give Jon Luhukay’s Owls all three points.

It means Reading are still without a home win since April and leaves Clement's side firmly in the Championship relegation zone heading into the international break.

This is how we thought the Royals performed:

Vito Mannone: 5/10 - Perhaps could have done better with the first Sheffield Wednesday goal but in truth it was a good strike by Reach. Thought he was let down by poor defending for Owls’ second.

Chris Gunter: 5/10 - Made some good interceptions throughout but lacked quality in his crossing, seemed to hit the first man the majority of the time, despite several opportunities. One quality ball in the first half but it came to nothing.

Tiago Ilori: 5/10 - Showed rapid recovery pace at times to avert the danger on a number of occasions. Also displayed a couple of tremendous cross-field passes which we don’t often see from him.

Liam Moore: 7/10 -  Made some crucial interceptions and showed his class with a brilliant header to put Reading back in with a shout as Clement’s men trailed by two goals.

Andy Yiadom: 5/10 - The former Barnsley man didn’t look as comfortable on the left-flank as we’ve seen in recent weeks and struggled to make an impact in the final third.

Sone Aluko: 4/10 - Struggled to make any serious impact on the game and gave away possession far too cheaply at times. Should have done better defensively for Wednesday's opener too.

David Meyler: 5/10 - Gifted possession away a couple of times in the first-half but was desperately unlucky not to open his account with a glancing header from Bacuna’s wicked delivery.

Leandro Bacuna:7/10 - Stood out for Royals this afternoon. His energy and enthusiasm to get forward and close down the opposition cannot be faulted. Tremendous delivery for Moore’s goal from a corner too.

Modou Barrow: 5/10 - Lacked his usual fear factor today and had a golden opportunity to level the scoreline seconds before the half-time break. Will be disappointed to have been subbed off just after the hour-mark but Josh Sims’ impact proved it was the correct call.

Sam Baldock: 5/10 -  Great energy throughout to close defenders down but struggled to force Cameron Dawson into a save. Key moment in the first-half when he slipped Barrow through on goal but the chance came to nothing.

Yakou Meite: 5/10 -  Won everything in the air but lacked quality in the final third. Gifted possession to the opposition by trying to take players on when a simple pass was on.

Josh Sims: 6/10 - Made an immediate impact from the bench and forced the corner which led to Liam Moore’s goal. Posed a real threat on the left for the last 25 minutes too.

Marc McNulty: 5/10 - Thrown on by Clement when Reading were 2-0 down but didn’t make any sort of impact. Lots of running about but lacked quality in the final third. Had a half-decent shot on target in stoppage time but goalkeeper Dawson smothered well.

Liam Kelly: 5/10 -  Looked forwards whenever he was on the ball and helped out with his share of the gritty work at the back too. Didn’t really stamp any sort of authority on the game but a better performance than he’s shown in recent games.
