WOODCOTE CC’s first season in the South Oxfordshire Friendly Midweek League ended in triumph as they secured the title with a 47-run win against a spirited Cholsey team.

With four teams finishing level on points at the end of the league season, Woodcote and Cholsey emerged from the semi-finals before clashing last Wednesday. The visitors elected to field and took an early wicket, but after that it became the Paul Knox show as he hit a magnificent match-winning century (115), after surviving an early stumping appeal.

Shots were played to all parts of the ground and his ton included 11 boundaries and five maximums.

He received good support from Ryan Lennard (18) and captain Mark Pearson (24no) as Woodcote posted 176-3 in their 17 overs.

Cholsey started brightly with Charlie Homeward (33) and Tom Heath (52) in form, but Cholsey were always well adrift of the run-rate thanks to some good Woodcote bowling and excellent fielding.

Pearson was at his fiery best and his 3-24 included two wickets in two balls, while vice-captain James Worsfold gave wonderful support with 2-9 in his four-over spell.

In the field, Jonny Clark led the way with a brilliant catch and some terrific ground fielding, and Cholsey could only reach 129-7 at the end of their innings.
