A FIELD of 60 players competed in the annual Reading Chronicle Mixed Open at Reading Golf Club last weekend.

Sue and Keith Rockhill from Hartley Wintney GC scored 46 points to win the four-ball better ball stableford competition.

Runners up on countback were Lynn Griffiths and partner David Bennett from Reading GC with 41 points, closely followed by Mapledurham’s Angela and Clive Adamson also with 41 points.

Winners of the nearest the pin competition went to Colin Reed and Tracy Crew.

Sonning

SONNING Vets secured a 3.5-2.5 home win over Newbury & Crookham following a 3-3 draw back in April.

There were wins for pairs Alan Tubb/Paul Gold, Chris Mills/Geoff Fielder and Ken Stevens/Derek Atkins, while John Allen/Nick Pflaeger halved their match.

  • TIMOTHY Bowler shot a superb nett 64 to win the recent Silver Ball Trophy.

The 21 handicapper carded a gross 85 to finish one shot clear of Ryan Goodwin (also 21 hcp) with Roger Holbrook (16hcp) a further three shots back in third.

  • ANDREW Stacey (6hcp) shot a gross 70 and nett 64 to win the latest midweek medal.

It was enough to win by three shots from Paul Kennedy (24hcp) who carded a gross 91 and nett 64. Chris Wilkins (6hcp) finished a further two shots back in third.

West Berks

West Berks’ lady captain, Sandy Miller, partnered Steve Cox to victory in the final of the mixed knockout matchplay competition on Saturday after a tight battle with Gale McAuley and Ray Pithers.

Miller and Cox took a one-shot lead into hole 18 and secured the half they needed to take the title.

Peter Hill won the men’s midweek stableford with 43 points. Brian Grace was a shot behind in second.
