DAVID Bearman retained his title as Wokefield Park club champion after posting 156 across his 36 holes last weekend.

That total led to an emphatic 13-shot victory ahead of Neil Stanley with 169, who in turn was three clear of youngster Josh Lewis.

Ollie Lewis was third with a nett 147.

  • FRIDAY July 13 may be viewed as unlucky for some and it may have appeared that way to Colin Harrison when he recorded a quintuple bogey 10 on hole five in the seniors’ medal at West Berks.

However, the 16-handicapper made light of the drama to return a gross 85, nett 69 to win the competition on countback from Dennis White.

Ray Pithers was third with gross 80, nett 71.

In a remarkable recovery, Harrison dropped just 12 shots during the other 17 holes with a birdie, nine pars and six bogies.

The only blemish was a double bogey six when he lost his ball on 15.

There was a tie on 84 points in the Pro’s Club played on Sunday with Tim Palmer, Paul Stringer and Richard Bower beating Jason Kendal, Jane Brackenbury and Colin Price on countback to take the title.

Matt Thomas, Rob Griffiths and Tom Wickstead were one point behind in third place Geoff Pudner won the men’s midweek stableford with 41 points. Graham Mort was second with 39 and Richard McCartney third on 36.

Pudner also won the nine-hole Liddiard midweek competition with 21 points winning on count-back from Dave Ware and Gordon Munro.

There was another three-way tie in the Saturday stableford with Gerry O’Sullivan, Nick Jones and Greg Collins all scoring 37 points with the placing decided in that order on countback.

In team events, the seniors recorded a fine 3½-2½ away win at Weybrook Park, while Saturday saw the West Berks mixed team win 5-2 at home to North Wilts and the men’s Saturday team lost 4½-1½ at Hadden Hill.
