A LACKLUSTRE Reading FC performance saw Royals lose 2-1 against non-league side Eastleigh FC in their opening pre-season fixture.

Leandro Bacuna got Reading's only goal between Paul McCallum's opener and Ben Williamson's winner.

Callum Harriott made a promising long-awaited return from injury while Modou Barrow also looked lively in the first-half.

Here's how we thought the Royals got on this afternoon.

First half:

Anssi Jaakola: 5/10 - Conceded early on but the defence should have done better in truth. Did not have a save to make after that.

Andy Yiadom: 5/10 - Made some good challenges on the right and looked lively throughout the first half. Looks very paced down the flank and keen to push forward.

Paul McShane: 5/10 - Looked strong in the air and won the majority of his headers. Question marks over Eastleigh’s opener but decent 45 minutes from the captain.

Liam Moore: 4/10 - Beaten for pace for Eastleigh’s opener but other than that did not have much to do. Reasonably solid performance from Reading’s sought-after defender.

Chris Gunter: 5/10 - Some good runs down the left and fashioned a couple of chances in the first-half.

Liam Kelly: 5/10 - A couple of wayward passes but some brilliant cross-field balls too.

David Meyler: 5/10 - Miss-hit a few passes early on but looked comfortable on the ball.

Sone Aluko: 4/10 - Struggled to get into the game. Should have done better with his first-half chance from range.

Modou Barrow: 7/10 - Stood out among the rest of the pack. Some great runs and unlucky not to get one or two goals himself.

John Swift: 6/10 - Carved out half-chances and looked content with the ball at his feet. Looked far more comfortable playing further up the pitch.

Yakou Meite: 6/10 - Looked powerful in the first half but did not really have any service to do anything with. Had a chance to score but was chalked offside.

Second half:

Vito Mannone: 3/10 - Had little to do in the second-half but made a costly mistake when he fumbled the ball for Eastleigh’s second.

Tyler Blackett: 5/10 - Looked solid in defence and made some good forward runs too. A quiet game overall but no mistakes from Blackett.

Tiago Ilori: 6/10 Looked calm on the ball and kept his positioning as well as putting in a couple of strong blocks at the back.

George Evans: - 5/10 A few wayward touches early on but overall looked quite comfortable as a makeshift centre-back.

Leandro Bacuna: - 7/10 Looked comfortable in midfield and showed a good range of passing. Took his goal well to spare Reading’s blushes.

Pelle Clement: 6/10 Linked up well with Callum Harriott down the left and looked lively throughout the second-half.

Dave Edwards: 6/10 Looked far more at home playing further up the pitch, had a couple of chances and could have got himself a goal in the process.

Andy Rinomhota: 7/10 - The youngster looked very effective at right-back. Showed brilliant pace and put some fantastic crosses into the box. In truth there was little more he could have done.

Callum Harriott: 7/10 - Harriott looked dangerous on the left-hand side. Some brilliant dribbles with the ball but squandered what was a golden opportunity to score.

Adrian Popa: 6/10 - Some good runs down the right and looked lively throughout his 45 minutes. Question marks over his final delivery but all in all a solid performance by Popa.

Danny Loader: 5/10 Few chances for the young forward but he was unlucky not to score when he crashed one against the post after 78 minutes.
