SONNING Past Captains were beaten 4-2 by East Berkshire in an entertaining friendly.
Paul Gold and Bill Branagh put the home side in front with a 2&1 victory before East Berks levelled when Clive Jones and Tom Morrison lost 1dn.
David Howes Duncan Forbes won 2&1 to put Sonning back in front, but defeats for Richard Ginn and John Gill (3&2), Derry Lewis and Mike Reeves (4&3), and Vince Bowen and John Butcher (4&3) resulted in defeat overall.
Sonning 2nds were well beaten 4½-½ at Reading.
Joint captain Mick Hardyman and Alan Jennings slipped to a 2&1 defeat before Kin Law and Kev Basterfield lost 4&3.
Steve Heather and George Maxted were edged out 2&1 before Ken Paterson and John Cornish secured Sonning’s only half point.
The final pairing of Mark Symons and Paul Robson suffered a heavy 5&4 defeat.
Sonning Veterans were thrashed 5-1 at Calcot Park.
Ken Smith and captain John Kick were beaten 2&1 and losses followed for Mike Burlow and Milan Webb, Martin Dalton and Scott Trathen, Bob Farquhar and Alan Tubb, and Glyn Duff and John Allen.
A whitewash was avoided thanks to a victory for Dave Fidler and Chris Mills.
In a roll-up event, the team of Kevin James, Graham Burgess and Pete Davidson were victorious with 89 points.
That was enough to edge out Sarah Davidson, Ksenia Penchukova and Sue Hardyman by a single point, with John Adams, Neil Dellar and Simon Wakerley taking the bronze medal a point further back.
