CALCOT Park hosted the Palmer Cup this year which was contested by 120 players from Reading GC, Sonning GC and the home club.

Calcot member Dana Kinlock won the event with a very respectable nett 65, playing off a nine handicap.

Runners-up were Craig Hutt (Calcot Park) and Darren Brent (Reading), both returning a nett 67.

Peter MacDonald (Reading) won the Nearest the Pin competition.

  • THE Founders qualifier was held at the weekend and Calcot member and scratch player, Shane Slatter, triumphed with a magnificent seven-under-par gross 63.

Slatter’s score set a new amateur course record for Calcot Park.

He began in sensational fashion by making five consecutive birdies between holes two and six, although he dropped a shot on the ninth to go into the back nine four-under-par.

A birdie on 10 followed by a brilliant eagle on the par-five 12th rebuilt his momentum, and although he bogeyed 15, a birdie on 16 followed by two pars enabled him to break the course record.

Ten handicappers Graham Parris and Matt Corder followed with nett 64s.

The top 16 players in this qualifier go forward to play in a knockout tournament.
