READING Fencing club’s Steven Bateman won the 2018 Southern Region Senior Epee Championships in Newbury at the weekend.
RFC fencers claimed three of the top four seeding places in the men’s Epee after the preliminary round of pools, leading into the direct elimination fights.
William Hoodless was eliminated in the first round to finish 17th, in his very first competition, having only started fencing recently.
David Hillier and Philippe Barbasiewicz were knocked out in the quarter finals, both losing by just one hit in their fights.
