TWO-goal Jon Dadi Bodvarsson spoke of his relief after Reading FC picked up their first Championship win in nine matches to ease their relegation worries.

The Iceland striker took his tally to eight for the season with goals in the 20th and 68th minutes in the 3-1 victory at Burton Albion.

That puts the 25-year-old top of Royals goalscoring charts this season, and he admitted the win on Tuesday night was a massive boost for Jaap Stam’s relegation-threatened side.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve had that winning feeling, so obviously it’s a nice feeling for everybody in the club,” he beamed.

“It’s up to us to keep going. There’s another game against Millwall on Saturday and we’ll be going for three points there as well.”

He added: “Burton were a very physical side but we trusted we had better quality football-wise.

“We knew if we weren’t up for the battle then we shouldn’t be here.

“Our defence was really good, we won tough balls in the air and those second balls. We matched the battle and that’s one of the reasons we got a good win.

“A lot of fans were there and they really were the 12th man and gave me and the boys a lot of extra energy, they were unbelievable.”

Reading Chronicle:

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson celebrates with his Reading team-mates after the 3-1 win at Burton Albion.

Bodvarsson’s opener from Leandro Bracuna’s cross was cancelled out by a Lucas Akins penalty after the break.

But Chris Gunter put Reading back in front before Bodvarsson struck again from a Mo Barrow assist to seal the victory.

“It’s nice to have good teammates around you to put the ball in front of you,” he stated. “It’s up to me to be there at the right time and in the right place.

“I just gambled and had that instinct in front of goal – I got two and hopefully there’s more to come.

“I never really set goal targets, you can’t really control that. But every game I go into I have a belief that I will score and that we will win.

“I’m happy that it’s going well at the moment, but there’s a lot left of the season. This is one game, and I’m going to keep on going.”

Reading will be looking to build on their win when they host Millwall at Madejski Stadium this Saturday (3pm ko).

New loan signing Chris Martin is certain to be in the squad after joining from Derby County on transfer deadline day.

But skipper Paul McShane, John Swift and Omar Richards are all unavailable with hamstring issues.
