VIRGINIA Water recorded their third successive away win in Hellenic Division One East with a 2-1 victory at Chalfont Wasps on Saturday.

The Waters are now unbeaten away from Stag Meadow in all competitions since September 16 with three wins and four draws to their name.

But they were made to fight all the way by a dogged Chalfont side, whose display on a treacherous pitch did not mirror their current league position.

The first 20 minutes at The Nest were fairly even but the visitors went ahead when Lorenzo Di Felice latched onto a Joe McBride through ball to calmly round the keeper and slot home.

The Waters defence held firm until the break with keeper Matt Jones rarely troubled apart from a volley from distance that hit the base of the post.

Virginia Water needed a strong start to the second half, but it was Chalfont who were the aggressors and they grabbed an equaliser as the visitors failed to deal with a long cross from the left.

To their credit, The Waters pressed forward rather than sit back and, from a Sam Devoil lay off, man-of-the-match Felice smashed home the winner on 62 minutes.

The win means Virginia Water remain second in the league table, five points behind Bicester Town but with two matches in hand on the leaders.

The scheduled home fixture against Aldermaston on Tuesday was postponed due to a frozen pitch at Stag Meadow.

The Waters are away to second from bottom Chinnor this Saturday (3pm) in their last match of the calendar year.

Holyport

Holyport are seventh in the table after their home fixture with Milton United was postponed due to a frozen pitch at Summerleaze on Saturday.

Port welcome sixth placed Sandhurst Town on Saturday, December 23 (3pm).

Chalvey Sports

Chalvey Sports made progress into the Slough Town Senior Cup semi-finals after a 3-1 win away at East Berkshire Football League club Frontline.

Bryan Taylor scored for Chalvey before the half-time interval, and Aydn Coomber struck twice after the break in the quarter-final tie.

The scheduled Division Two East fixture against Thame Rangers Development on Tuesday was postponed due to a frozen pitch at Arbour Park.

Third in the table Chalvey travel to The Timbers this Saturday to take on second placed Virginia Water Reserves (3pm).
