Reading FC defender Chris Gunter's signed shirt raised more money than any of his teammates' during a charity auction, it was revealed today (Tuesday).
The signed Reading FC shirts raised a total of £3,867 for The Royal British Legion, with Chris Gunters' shirt raising a total of £330, almost £200 more than the average shirt which went for £154.
Overall shirts from all clubs in the Sky Bet Championship raised £86,924 bringing the total amount raised over three seasons to more that £310,000.
Signed match-worn Poppy shirts from Reading's fixture against Burton Albion on November 19, 2016 were auctioned on Sky Bet's page, along with the limited-edition match-ball from the game, emblazoned with the emblematic Poppy logo.
Sandro Di Michele, Sky Bet spokeman, said: “After the third season of a really rewarding partnership between outselves and the Legion, we continue to be surprised by the generosity that fans show when bidding and donating to this important cause.”
Chris Vernazza, The Royal British Legion's spokesman, said: “We are delighted to have Sky Bet's ongoing support, which, along with the help of the generous public who bit on the shirts and balls, has raised more than £310,000 in the last three years for the charity.”
