RUMOURS that Macro Maconato is on the verge of a switch to Reading FC have been dismissed by the striker's representatives.

Marconato, who can play as a winger or as a striker, arrived in Berkshire alongside his agent last night and watched over Royals' 3-1 victory over Millwall.

However, the player's communications representitive insisted he was at the game as part of his personal life and he is not on the verge of joining Jaap Stam's squad.

He stated: "He's been in England for some time now, having trials at some clubs, but that's not even the case with Reading.

"His attendance to last night Reading game was just part of his private life."

Royals' boss Jaap Stam last night voiced his frustrations over summer transfers and inflated market prices following rumours of a failed £4m bid for Brighton's Tomer Hemed.

The Dutchman insisted Reading need a striker and a midfielder before the transfer window slams shut next week.

“I want to bring players in and we need to bring players in,” asserted Stam.

“I’ve spoken with the club about it, even before I signed.

“It’s about looking for the right players and getting them in to make us stronger.

“The longer we wait, the more expensive players get.

"It’s not going to be easy to bring those player in but they need to come in because we need that extra quality in the squad.

“A striker and a midfielder are our main priorities.”
