THE Razzlers held their nerve to defeat Laurel Park Whirlwinds 30-22 in an entertaining Reading District League encounter.

Razzlers had the best of the first quarter and were at the top of their game from the beginning.

They were quickly racking up the goals thanks to plenty of solid attacking moves, with their player-of-the-match Sophie Gardner dominating as WA.

She brought the ball in the circle time after time and the shooters did not miss, despite from good work from the LP defenders. At the end of the first quarter, The Razzlers led 8-1.

The second quarter saw Whirlwinds improve as they found their attacking momentum, although Razzlers continued to play well.

Centre and Laurel Park’s star performer Daisy Rodgers created lots of attacking options and WA Lisa Castle combined with her to work the ball around the circle edge until the shooters were in the best possible position. At half time, Razzlers led 18-8.

The break seemed to affect the previously impressive Razzlers and their third quarter was not great, allowing Laurel Park right back into the match.

Whirlwinds were playing much better netball and now took control with their GK, Chloe Hughes, intercepting lots of their opponents’ feeds into the circle. At the end of the third quarter the gap had been cut to 21-16.

However, the Laurel Park comeback was halted as Razzlers returned to their fine form in the final quarter.

GS Kirstie Ogilvie did not miss and made sure Razzlers kept pulling away.

Their GD, Polly Gardner, frustrated the Whirlwinds attack time after time with some fantastic tips and interceptions, and she ensured her side eventually ran out comfortable winners.

  • THE Reading District League wishes Laurel Park head coach Lisa Wise a speedy recovery from her recent operation and participants look forward to seeing her back at the courts very soon.
