SHANE Slatter produced a fabulous level-par second round of 70 to snatch victory in the Calcot Park Club Championships on Sunday.

After an opening 77, he was six shots off leaders Harry West and Darren Gatward at the end of day one, the pair shooting a 71 before collapsing the following day.

With the top 38 continuing into round two, Slatter (pictured right) took a one-shot victory from Melan Dhaubhadel , who shot a 72 and 76 for a total of 148.

Gatward’s second round 77 meant he was edged out on countback for the runners-up spot, finishing third.

Bradley Fullbrook came fourth following scores of 73 and 76.

West did have some consolation in shooting the best gross round on Saturday, while Paul Kowalik’s 76 was the best round on Sunday aside from Slatter.

The overall handicap winner was Martin Sherwood (66 and 73 for 139), who edged out Joe Bonner (67/74 for 141) by two shots.

Outside of those two, Matty Bicknell (68) had the best nett score on Saturday, with Bal Singh (72) taking the honours on Sunday.

  • MATTHEW Robertson (3hcp) sealed back-to-back club championships victories at Mapledurham.

The competition was fought out across two rounds with the cut being limited to the best 45 scores after the opening day.

Robertson led after round one, shooting 73, and he repeated that score for a total of 146.

The champion was two shots clear of Tanveer Abbas (6hcp) on 148 and third-placed Alex Luxon (6hcp) on 149.

The Ladies’ Championship was won by Danielle McGeoghan (10hcp) on 164, beating Theresa Taylor (12hcp) by five shots and Jess Kennedy (11hcp) by seven.

The men’s nett competition was won by Chris Gosling (11hcp), who carded 65 and 66, the only player to shoot two rounds under handicap.

The ladies’ version was won by Kym Kennedy (16hcp).

  • LARS Gleie (11hcp) shot a nett 65 to beat 88 rivals to the West Challenge Cup at Reading GC on Saturday.

He was one shot clear of Arthur Manser (12hcp), with Cliff Denton (7hcp) a further two back.

Golf shop manager Jamie Sparrow and members Darren Rapley and Jason Macbeth (pictured below) raised more than £900 in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support in the Longest Day Challenge.

They played 72 holes on Tuesday of last week, starting at 5am and walking more than 20 miles during the day.

They scored 305 stableford points as a team.
