TABLE tennis sensation Jamie Liu returned from the Lithuania Cadet and Mini Cadet Open with silver and bronze medals.
Reading 12-year-old Liu topped his group to qualify for the knockout stages of the mini cadet boys’ singles and he beat Sergei Bruskov of Russia 3-0 in the last 16.
He followed by defeating another Russian, Vladislav Bannikov, 3-1 in the quarters, but a third opponent from the same country proved a step too far as Denis Izumrudov ended his run with a 3-0 (11-1, 12-10, 11-5) victory.
Liu still appeared on the podium as both losing semi-finalists were awarded bronze medals.
In the team competition, Liu went one better in partnership with Alexey Perfilyev of Russia as they reached the final.
The pair won all three group matches and then saw off a Lithuanian select side in the quarter-finals and Russia B in the semis.
The Russian A team awaited in the final and Liu made it a great start by convincingly defeating Mikhail Brednikov 3-0 (13-11, 11-9, 11-9).
Perfilyev was defeated by Vladislav Bannikov and the Russians then won the doubles to take a 2-1 lead.
Liu levelled the score by sinking Bannikov 3-0 (11-9, 11-9, 11-8) but Perfilyev was unable to seal triumph and he and Liu had to settled for silver.
