READING youngster Jamie Liu has been named in the England Youth Squad for the second season in succession.

The 11-year-old player, a pupil at The Hill Primary School, is in the performance group, consisting of 14 players. The squad is completed by a 17-strong development group.

Table Tennis England announced the squad following an application process and a series of assessments held over the summer.

The players will all attend monthly sessions at the National Sports Centre at Lilleshall as well as having regular contact and support from the national coaching staff on an individual or smaller group basis in between sessions.

Table Tennis England’s head of coaching and performance, Simon Mills, said: “We will be supporting the youngsters as much as possible to give them a chance to succeed on the international stage.

“We are excited to see how these young players develop.”

The players have signed an agreement, which sets out their commitments to the programme, including training, fitness and behaviour criteria.

l IN the Reading & District Table Tennis League, Our Lady of Peace A made it three wins in a row after they won a big Division One match against Kingfisher B 7-3.

Martin Adams won twice for the Kingfisher team including a brilliant comeback win against Daniel Moses, while Daniel McTiernan managed a fine hat-trick for OLOP.

Kingfisher A were comfortable 10-0 winners over Curzon Club A with hat-tricks from Mark Banks, Stuart Williams and Hari Gehlot.

Sonning Common & Peppard A are up to third after beating Kingfisher D 7-3, Gary Morgan with another treble supported through wins from Jason Roberts and Malcolm Gregory.

Reading YMCA crashed to another defeat as they lost 9-1 to Our Lady of Peace B. Henryk Ciechanowicz and Djordje Milovanovic both secured impressive maximums alongside a Steve Miller double.

Our Lady of Peace C continue to look good in Division Two, Harry Munro with a maximum as they made it three wins in a row with a 7-3 defeat of Tidmarsh B, having earlier won a hard fought match at Kingfisher F 8-2.

Simon Berry, Jez Willis and new recruit Matt Faulkner all got maximums as Sonning Common & Peppard B won their Division Two derby with Sonning Common & Peppard E 10-0.

Matt Stone managed a fine treble as Sonning Common Peppard C won 6-4 against Kingfisher E, Matt beating Kingfisher’s Colin Dyke 11-9 13-11 15-13 to clinch the match win. Simon Hopkins starred with a fine treble as Pangbourne WMC A defeated Kingfisher G 8-2.

Sonning Common & Peppard E won a big match against Sonning Common & Peppard D 8-2, Thomas Perkins and Joe Barraclough both with maximums with Thomas just getting the better of Anthony Reeve 7-11 11-2 11-9 7-11 15-13.

Tidmarsh C and Kingfisher F battled out a 5-5 draw, Ivor Hardman winning a key opening set against Tidmarsh ace Andy Stephens 14-12 2-11 11-7 3-11 11-5 for Kingfisher. Willis Ma’s treble helped Kingfisher G secure a 5-5 draw against Sonning Common & Peppard C.

Division Three league leaders Kingfisher J went to Tilehurst Methodists A and came away with an 8-2 win with David Joyce and Melvyn Lovegrove both hitting trebles.

Two days later Kingfisher J beat Milestone A 7–3 with David Joyce and Luca Bianchi both winning all three. Luca had to work hard against Chris Collins beating him 9-11 5-11 12-10 11-9 18-16. Eric Holmes was the star for Kingfisher H by winning all three to help them to defeat Pangbourne WMC B 8–2. Steve Woolnough and Mick Mitcham both gained doubles.

Tilehurst Methodists B made it two wins out of two by beating Kingfisher I 6-4 for whom Nils Wedi hit a great maximum. Hat-tricks from Seth Martin and Ludo Couillard helped Springfield A see off Curzon Club B 8-2, while Wendy Porter hit top form at Birch Copse A by gaining a fairly easy treble and with Mark Bullion and Alistair Richardson both gaining doubles this helped Our Lady of Peace D win 8-2.

In Division Four Sonning Sports A were held to a 5-5 draw by Tidmarsh D despite a fine treble from Bob Woodmansee. Dave Chard recaptured his best form as Sonning went on to defeat Milestone B 9-1, Bob Woodmansee also getting another treble.

Sachin Mundra managed the only win for Milestone. Terry Hardie and Dave Edwards both starred with trebles as Tidmarsh D beat Our Lady of Peace E 9-1 to end the OLOP teams 100% start.

Simon Barter and Dave Shephard maximums saw Tidmarsh E comfortably defeat Springfield B 9-1. Chris Speight, Alan Goold and Dan Mortimer for Springfield B staged a comeback from 2-4 down to win the final four games to defeat Sonning Common & Peppard F 6-4.

Chris Webb and Dave Sheppard scored trebles as Tidmarsh E defeated Kingfisher K 8-2.

Kingfisher L beat BBC Club 8-2 to maintain their unbeaten start in Division 5. Duncan Abbott’s treble and two apiece from Jaroslaw Chmielowiec and Andrew Adair saw Birch Copse B win 8-2 at Milestone C. Hat tricks from Dave Aust and Mike Casserely saw Sonning Common & Peppard G win 9-1 against Springfield C, Mike just getting the better of Robert Atack in his opener 11-13 10-12 13-11 11-5 11-8.

Mark Edwards treble helped Reading FC Community Trust to a 6-4 win against Tilehurst Methodists D. At the bottom Our Lady of Peace F moved off the foot of the table after winning 6-4 at Sonning Sports B, Steve Shaw, Rao Burgula and Situ Abdul Rahman all winning twice while Cris Reynolds picked up a good maximum for Sonning.
