The club, which boasts 1,100 members, allowed their highest level squad gymnasts to compete on all the core apparatus, as well as undertaking the compulsory tests of strength and flexibility known as range and conditioning.

The girls in the women’s artistic squad competed with the athletes using the opportunity to practice their new routines for the upcoming elite level competitions.

Gold, silver and bronze execution awards were won by many of the girls including Amelie Thorne, Alice Bruun, Kaylee Doyle and Emma Kendall, while Amelie was also presented with the Outstanding Performer Award for her strong all-around performance across the apparatus.

In the men’s artistic gymnastics section, rising star Isaac Sperrin of Caversham won the U9 Elite competition with an impressive 67.2 out of a maximum of 81.

Isaac, together with the other elite gymnasts, are now perfecting their routines in preparation for the Southern Region Championships in May.

Other age group winners on the day included Max Kendall (U10 Elite), Oliver Crew (U8) and Harley Simpson (9/10), while Charlie Sinnott and Joshua Baldwin were joint winners of the U11 competition.

The competition, which was organised by Dave Gordon, head of men’s artistic gymnastics, was a great success. He said: “The men’s squad at Bulmershe is growing in strength and depth, and includes several boys who compete at GB level.

“We are very proud of these young gymnasts.”
