ONE OF the key sponsors of this year's Reading Retail Awards has renewed its commitment to the cause as their programme of town centre arts and cultural events enters full swing.

Reading Business Improvement District (BID) is a supporter of both the Awards and ARENA, which will continue to celebrate Reading based cultural excellence throughout the summer months.

A part of the town's Year of Culture, ARENA has an action packed programme including music, dance, theatre, a street carnival, a weekend of walking tours, a day of film making and a Brazilian samba procession.

Coming up in the immediate future is ReMade in Reading on July 30, which will turn Broad Street into a class film set.

On August 20 the Carnival of the World will see the town centre awash with bhangra, dhol and steel bands in an attempt to bring a little slice of Nottinghill vibrancy to Berkshire.

Bobby Lonergan, Reading Business Improvement District Manager, said: “We are thrilled that so many of Reading’s cultural groups will be bringing their talent to the town centre this summer to create a fabulous free programme of events.  “Reading Business Improvement District has been an enthusiastic supporter of the Awards since their inception.

“The Promotional Initiative Award sponsored by Reading BID provides a measure of the marketing creativity of Reading businesses while the ceremony itself showcases the retail vibrancy and strength which sustains Reading’s position as the major shopping destination in the region. “ The Reading Retail Awards are in their seventh year.

Nominations closed on July 11. The awards ceremony will take place at the Hilton Hotel on September 17.
