WITH only a month to go until nominations close for the Reading Retail Awards, a Eastern European supermarket in Broad Street Mall has received the nod from a satisfied customer.

Anna Sadowska nominated Smaczek Polish Shop in the My Favourite Shop category.

Irena Buzala and her sister Carolina have been running the St Mary's Butts outlet for five years.

Mrs Buzala said: “I moved to Britain 14 years ago and studied for a retail qualification.

“When I finished I worked very hard for other people and then decided to start my own business.”

That business now attracts people from across Reading and from across the various European communities.

“Lots of our customers are English, Romania, Slovakian, Czech and of course Polish.

“Most people come in for our meat area. We import all of our food from Poland.”

Mrs Sadowska said: “I nominate this shop because they always provide fresh and good quality food.

“You can find variety of Polish products and also delicious cakes.

“People working in that shop are friendly and I think that shop deserves that award.”

The Reading Retail Awards are in their seventh year. Nominations close on July 11 with the awards ceremony at the Hilton Hotel on September 17.
