WITH just over a month to go until nominations close for the Reading Retail Awards, a flood of entries has seen a Caversham based framing shop pick up a nod.

Terrys Framing was put forward for the My Favourite Shop award by satisfied customer Denise Jones.

Situated in St Martins Precinct, Terrys acts as a huge depository of frames of all shapes and sizes that has held on to some of its roots as a convenience store.

Terry Woods, 68, recently passed over the reins of the business to his son Matt after 36 years of hands-on ownership.

“We started in 1980 as a standard shop,” said Mr Woods.

“Over the years we have grown and changed with the times. About 20 years ago we realised we were good at selling frames.

“I don't make the frames, but I do do all the fitting.”

Terrys is no stranger to the Reading Retail Awards, having already won the My Favourite Shop award last year and ending as runners-up in the Independent Shop category.

Mr Woods said: “We think the awards are a good idea.

“When you're having a bad day and it's a bit rainy, it reminds you of what you're doing, what you have to offer.

“We treat our customers like friends and our staff like family.”

One such customer is Ms Jones, who wrote in her nomination: “An absolutely fabulous shop! Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff.

“Matt and Terry are especially generous with their time and knowledge. Their picture framing is excellent and they sell such a variety of things at super prices.

“You always end up buying more than you went in for.”

The Reading Retail Awaerds are in their seventh year. Nominations close on July 11 with the awards ceremony at the Hilton Hotel on September 17.
