A YOUNG woman was taken to hospital after she had to be cut free from her car.

Fire crews from Wokingham Road and Whitley Wood stations were sent to Loddon Bridge Road at around 4pm on Friday.

Two cars had collided just outside the BP garage, blocking Wokingham Road, with one female and one male casualty reported.

The young male managed to escape his car without the help of emergency services, while the woman needed to be cut out of her car.

She was then handed over to paramedics in a neck brace before being taken to hospital.

Firefighter Martyn Ainsworth, from Whitley Wood, said: "We were called at around 4pm to a road traffic collision on Loddon Bridge Road.

"Two cars were involved including one female casualty who was trapped in her car.

"We freed the female casualty and the young man in the other car managed to get out without our help.

"We were on the scene for around an hour and handed the matter over to the police."

SCAS confirmed the woman suffered head, chest and neck injuries.

Both drivers were taken to hospital for treatment, but their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Firefighter Sam Gost, from Wokingham Road, added: "The female in the car had a neck brace on and was handed over to South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS).

"We did not clean up the scene as the matter was handed over to Thames Valley Police (TVP)."
